PROGRAMMES IN THE UK

Play2Remember (P2R) in London, UK

Play2Remember in London, UK, is a football event dedicated to honouring the victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi and those affected by mass atrocities worldwide. It also serves as a moment to stand in solidarity with survivors while promoting reconciliation, resilience, and unity through sport.

Established in 2014 by Football for Hope, Peace, and Unity (now part of the Ishami Foundation) in collaboration with community outreach groups in London, Play2Remember brings together survivors, their families, friends, and the wider London community in a spirit of commemoration and hope.

Over the years, we have organised football matches uniting diverse communities—including Rwandan, East African, and other African community groups, Jewish and Muslim participants, NGOs, and schools. These games are typically preceded by survivor testimonies and discussions focused on unity, tolerance, and resilience.

If you would like to organise a Play2Remember or AMAHORO One Day One Goal football event at your school, corporate company, or in your community, please contact us at info@ishamifoundation.org

Team Rwanda UK

Team Rwanda UK, a London-based youth football club, was founded in 2011 to unite the Rwandan community in London and across the UK through the power of football. Over the years, it has evolved into a broader community initiative focused on teamwork, conflict prevention, and combating prejudice, intolerance, and hatred in society.

Team Rwanda UK places a strong emphasis on educating participants about unity and reconciliation as essential pillars of Rwanda’s national identity. The program also promotes values such as fair play, team spirit, discipline, tolerance, and mutual respect.

In 2014, through the One Game, One Goal, One Community project—a weekly football session designed to engage young people in discussions on community issues—Team Rwanda UK played a vital role. Members regularly participated in workshops and public engagements addressing challenges facing both the Rwandan and wider London communities. Many of these young people have since become active contributors to their communities, with some returning to Rwanda to take part in the country’s ongoing reconstruction and sustainable development efforts.

The Team Rwanda UK program is currently under review, with activities set to resume in due course.
